Newton County Jail:
The Newton County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail which holds inmates from all of the municipalities within Newton County.
Built in 1996, our jail is a 80-bed facility which holds pre-trial detainees as well as sentenced inmates serving up to 1 year in jail. The corrections division is supervised by Captain Mike Barnett with the assistance of: Lieutenant M. Hayes Sergeant L. Clark Sergeant B. Visitation is an inmate privilege and can be revoked without notice for disciplinary purposes.
Any visitor who is disruptive may be banned from returning for visitation of inmates.

All visitation will now be conducted through "video visitation".
Using the CIDNET public portal, visitors no longer have to travel to the jail to visit an inmate. Visitors can make video calls to inmates from their own home. Through the use of a webcam or cellphone, visitors may call an inmate and speak to them through the video system. The system is also capable of sending instant messages to-and-from inmates. There is a fee for these services.
For those not wishing to create an account or video visit from home, visitation is still available at the jail, however it will be through the video system at no charge. Please see the front desk to check-in. Each inmate receives only one 15 minute in-house visit per week. There may be a short wait and it is first-come, first-served.
ALL SERVICES THROUGH THE CIDNET VIDEO SYSTEM ARE MONITORED BY JAIL STAFF.
ALL VIDEO CHAT, INSTANT MESSAGING AND VIDEO MESSAGES ARE RECORDED AND RETAINED.

Authorized Reading Material:
Inmates may receive one paperback book or one word puzzle book per week. Books are distributed on Wednesday mornings.
If an inmate requires reading glasses, they must be plastic frames. Only one pair will be accepted at a time.

- Books must be bound by glue. No loose pages will be accepted.
- No hard-backed or leather-backed books or Bibles will be accepted.
- No magazines will be accepted.
- Any book brought into the jail will be considered donated to the jail library after the original inmate is done with it.
Photographs:
Inmates may have up to 6 photographs in their possession.

- Excessive photographs will be placed in the inmate's storage.
- No Polaroid-type pictures will be accepted.
- No lewd, pornographic or suggestive photos will be accepted.
- Photographs of a victim related to the inmate's case/incident/crime will not be accepted.
- Photographs of individuals with tattoos will not be accepted.
Inmate Mail:
Mail being sent to inmates MUST be sent on a standard Post Card starting October 1st, 2018.
Mail is received and processed every week day [except holidays]. Inmate mail is generally distributed the day it is received by the facility.
